Whales Along The Biggest Sand Island - Fraser <2009.08.09>

Have you ever dreamed to ride on the back of a whale like Pinoccio? Or to come really close to one of those majestic creatures?

If Yes - than Hervey Bay, protected by Fraser Island - die biggest Sand island in the world - is the place to be.
Every year between June & September the humpback whales come here to relax after breeding season.

There are plenty of organisations going out ever day - the one we pick was Whalesong, who are highly recommendable as they have a lot of experience and smaller number of people on board.

Here we go - for the next 4 hours our full attention is giving to anything what moves on the water!

And that`s a lot! Luckily there where dolphines, pilot whales, plenty off humpbacks, dugongs, ... here they come - enjoy!

Did you know that whales are atracted if you wave to them - curious "little" things ;-)

When the show is over - you still can see the "foot print" of the whale:

Spectecular Show - wasn`t it!

Next we crossed over to Fraser Island itself.
120km in length consisting of 100% sand, makes it to worlds largest sand islands. Here only 4WD survives - this you find out immediately after arrival:

Here you visit crystal clear fresh water lakes ...

Have a stroll through rainforest...

Or fly over the beach in your off-road limousine...

After a refreshing dip in one of the creeks & an afternoon tea our short visit is already over. Here you easily can spend a week ...
