Kyoto by Night & Day <2009.11.20>

After 4 hours on Japans fastest trains – the Shinkansen – we arrived at my favorite city … Kyoto.

Ones the capital of Japan and survived the bombings of WWII it is packed with ancient temples, philosophic paths, museums and countless world heritage sites. There will be always too less time for Kyoto but at least 4 days you should spare.

The best view over the entire city you get from the Kyoto Tower where you have a 360deg panoramic view over the area we going to explore the next days.

Don`t go to bed when it got dark outside – Kyoto never sleeps and also unveils its beauty in the night times – especially during Koyo season.

During the day we followed the masses and visited the east side temples who are there to protect the city from the evil in the mountains. Our tour started at the Silver Temple following the philosophic path over the biggest sites like Eiken-Do until the heart of Kyoto – Gion – where you still can see Geisha`s if you are lucky.

At the end of the day, exhausted and with burning soles, we found shelter in one of the traditional eaters the Izakaya`s along the river where you sip on your fruity Sake drinks and nibble on today`s recommended Yakitori chicken skewer.

Fell asleep
